July 20, 2000 A 600s no filter exposure of the Eagle Nebula. The Eagle Nebula is a dark, unilluminated, cloud between us and an illuminated emission nebula in the background. Stars are currently forming in this dark cloud, and you may be familiar with the images taken of this nebula by the Hubble Telescope
