Nassau Station Nassau Station Robotic TelescopeImage GallerySupernova 1999el in NGC 6951The picture below was taken with the NSRT on Ocotber 30, 1999. The red arrow points out supernova 1999el. Note that the supernova is not present in the picture below taken from the Digitized Sky Survey. There is something visible near the location of the supernova. It is a large HII region (ionization nebula) in NGC 6951. HII regions are a mark of recent star formation and we would expect to find supernova among star forming regions. Below is a graph of the data we've gathered with the NSRT on the brightness variation of SN 1999el.
